What’s New in Tally Prime 7.2: Features & Upgrade Guide
Tally Prime 7.2 is the latest version of TallyPrime. Tally Solutions released it on 12 October 2026, and the official release notes cover both TallyPrime and TallyPrime Edit Log.
This release is about compliance and paperwork more than redesign. You can now export GSTR-9 data straight from the Annual Computation report. e-Invoice and e-Way Bill logins can stay active for up to 30 days. Purchase orders pick up the same print templates as invoices, and TDS and TCS returns follow Protean’s FVU Tool 1.2. Sellers of tobacco products get a clearer look at the deemed taxable amount behind their GST, and companies in the UAE get new e-Invoicing tools.
Below, each change is explained along with where it sits in the software and who is likely to notice it. There is also a comparison with Release 7.1 and the steps to upgrade. Feature details come from Tally’s own release notes and help pages.

What’s new in Tally Prime 7.2
The changes below are in the order most users are likely to meet them, with GST first.
GSTR-9 data export from Annual Computation
GSTR-9 is the annual GST return. The portal fills part of it from what you filed during the year, and the usual job for an accountant is to check those figures against the books and key in whatever differs.
Release 7.2 adds an export for that step. From the Annual Computation report in TallyPrime, you can export the HSN/SAC summary, or all sections, to the GSTR-9 file. Tally’s release notes say the exported data is meant for reconciling your books with the GSTR-9 data that the GST portal has already populated, with less manual entry. On its upgrade page, Tally describes the export as going to the GSTR-9 offline tool.
The HSN/SAC summary is often the longest table to fill for a business with a wide item list, so exporting it on its own is a useful option. The release notes describe the export as a reconciliation and data-entry aid, not as filing. The figures still need a careful review before the return goes in.
Login sessions of up to 30 days for e-Invoice and e-Way Bill
Until now, e-Invoice and e-Way Bill access from TallyPrime worked on a 6-hour login session. Tally’s e-Way Bill help pages still describe that window. Release 7.2 adds a longer option: sessions of up to 30 days for both services, kept alongside the 6-hour validity. You can switch the extended session on or off as needed.
The practical gain is fewer sign-ins. An office that raises invoices through the day, or runs billing in shifts, will have felt a session lapse in the middle of work. A 30-day session should cut down on those interruptions.
TallyPrime’s GST portal login already offered a 30-day session, so this brings e-Invoice and e-Way Bill closer to the same arrangement. On a shared computer, think about whether you want a login that stays alive for a month. Leaving the extended session off there is a reasonable call, and the release notes make clear it is your choice.
Deemed Taxable Amount for tobacco products
TallyPrime has handled GST on tax-inclusive MRP for tobacco products since Release 7.1. The rules come from CGST Notification No. 20 dated 31 December 2025, effective 1 February 2026. Compensation cess is removed for tobacco products, GST is 40% on cigarettes and other tobacco products and 18% on bidis, and tax is worked out on a taxable value derived from the retail sale price.
That calculation produces reports that look odd the first time you read them. The Taxable Value column shows your selling price, but the tax beside it is computed on a different, MRP-based figure. Tally’s help page gives an example: 10 cartons of cigarettes at an MRP of Rs 3,400 per carton. The deemed taxable value is 10 × 3,400 ÷ 1.4 = Rs 24,285.71, and 40% GST on that comes to roughly Rs 9,714.
Release 7.2 puts that figure on screen as the Deemed Taxable Amount. You will see it in the GST Rate and Related Details screen of a sales voucher, in the GST Tax Analysis (Alt+A) and in the GST returns. To get it as a column in reports, press F12 (Configure) and enable Show Deemed Taxable Amount. For printed or emailed invoices, press Ctrl+P, then C (Configure), and enable the same option so the amount appears in the GST analysis section of the invoice.
No new rate or calculation method is involved. Release 7.2 only displays the number that was already driving the tax. For a seller who has to explain an invoice to a customer or an auditor, that is a real help.
The same help page has one more detail worth knowing. The e-Invoice and e-Way Bill portals reject invoices where taxable value plus tax exceeds the invoice total, except for items under certain HSN codes: 2106 90 20, 2401, 2402, 2403, 2404 11 00 and 2404 19 00. If MRP-based invoices are being rejected, check the HSN codes first.
Purchase order print templates and auto-save
Release 7.1 introduced Invoice Print Templates: ready-made layouts you can customize with a logo, watermark, header and footer images, fonts, colours and terms and conditions, then set as
the default for each voucher type. Release 7.2 extends them to purchase orders. A business that sends polished invoices and plain purchase orders now has a way to make both look like they came from the same company.
The second part is a new setting called Auto-save changes to user templates. With it on, changes you make in the Print, Export and Share configurations are saved to your user template automatically, so the adjustments stay with the template.
TDS and TCS returns for Protean FVU Tool 1.2
Release 7.2 supports Protean (formerly NSDL) FVU Tool 1.2. The FVU is the file validation utility that checks a TDS or TCS return file before upload. Tally lists three areas of change:
- Non-salary TDS and TCS returns: updated support for Forms 144, 143 and 140.
- Salary TDS returns: updated support for Form 138.
- Return validation: support for Interest Allocation, Others Allocation and Date of Payment in the Challan Details (CD) and Deductee Details (DD) records, along with the validations that apply to them.
Forms 138, 140, 143 and 144 first arrived in TallyPrime with Release 7.1. Release 7.2 brings them in line with the latest FVU. If your return preparation follows a fixed monthly or quarterly rhythm, upgrade well before it rather than on the filing day.
Try Now tile on the Gateway of Tally
A Try Now tile now appears on the Gateway of Tally. From time to time it shows a short message about a feature that could be useful for your business and what it does. It is a prompt rather than a feature in its own right, but it gives long-time users a gentle way to find out what the software can do without reading every release note.
Get Started with TallyIra under F1
A new Get Started with TallyIra option sits under F1 (Help), and what it does depends on your setup. If the Docs by Ira plug-in is not installed, it opens the TallyIra webpage, where you can link your serial number and download the plug-in. If the plug-in is already installed, it opens the Docs by Ira help content.
Docs by Ira is Tally’s AI-based document processing: you scan or upload an invoice and it is turned into a TallyPrime entry. Tally’s 7.1 page says it handles inward documents such as purchase invoices, purchase orders, delivery challans and credit or debit notes. You do not need it to use Release 7.2. The new menu entry is only a shortcut to set it up.
UAE e-Invoicing updates
Release 7.2 also carries changes for companies in the UAE, listed in Tally’s UAE release notes:
- e-Invoicing registration can now be completed for companies registered only for Corporate Tax.
- e-Invoices can be exchanged with the e-Invoice System directly from TallyPrime, individually or in bulk.
- A Send for e-Invoicing report lists transactions pending e-Invoice generation, so corrections can be made before the portal rejects them.
- The e-Invoice report has new status categories: e-Invoice Generation in Progress, e-Invoice Generated, Voucher Information Modified after Exchange, and Rejected by e-Invoice System.
- Advance receipts can now carry the Nature of Transaction, VAT Rate, Taxable Amount, VAT Amount and Reason for Exempt, and can have multiple line entries.
- Agency ID and Legal Agency Identifiers can be recorded in masters and transactions, and a Reason for Allowance can be given when a discount applies to a non-vatable stock item.
Release 7.1 covered the readiness side of UAE e-Invoicing, meaning company, stock item and ledger setup plus the e-Invoice report. Release 7.2 adds the exchange itself.
Tally Prime 7.1 vs 7.2: what actually changed
Users already on 7.1 usually want to know what they gain by moving. This table lines the two releases up by area, based on Tally’s release notes for each.
Area | Release 7.1 | Release 7.2 |
Printing | Invoice Print Templates with logos, watermarks, fonts and terms and conditions, set as default per voucher type | Templates also apply to purchase orders; auto-save option for template changes |
Annual GST return | Annual Computation report | Export of the HSN/SAC summary or all sections to the GSTR-9 file |
Tobacco GST | GST on RSP-based taxable value | Deemed Taxable Amount visible in vouchers, invoices and returns |
e-Invoice and e-Way Bill login | 6-hour session | Up to 30 days, optional |
TDS and TCS | New return forms 138, 140, 143 and 144 introduced | Support for Protean FVU Tool 1.2 and new validations |
UAE | e-Invoicing readiness setup, VAT 201 download and reconciliation | e-Invoice exchange, Corporate Tax registration, new status categories |
Other additions | IMS supplier-detail fetch and Books View, Auto Wrap Text, ICICI online payments, Schedule III financial statements, OAuth e-mail, subscriptions in one place | Try Now tile, Get Started with TallyIra |
Read side by side, 7.1 opened several new areas and 7.2 mostly extends them. Templates reach purchase orders, the tobacco calculation gets a visible number, the TDS forms get updated validation, and UAE e-Invoicing moves from setup to exchange. For a business already on 7.1, the upgrade carries few surprises, since most changes build on something already in the product.
Is 7.2 the latest version of Tally Prime?
As of 14 October 2026, yes. Release 7.2 is the newest entry on TallyHelp’s release notes page, dated 12 October 2026, and Tally’s own upgrade page features it. Tally keeps issuing releases, so if you are reading this later, check TallyHelp for a newer one.
To find out which release you are running, open the About screen under F1 (Help). TallyPrime also notifies you when a new release is available, and an Upgrade to Latest Release button appears on the Gateway of Tally.
How to upgrade to Tally Prime 7.2
Tally’s upgrade help page describes two routes. Before either one, confirm that your TSS (Tally Software Services) subscription is active. Tally’s upgrade page says the upgrade is free with an active TSS.
Upgrading from inside the product:
- Take a fresh backup of your company data.
- Open TallyPrime and look for the Upgrade to Latest Release button on the Gateway of Tally.
- Click it and follow the on-screen steps.
- When the update finishes, click Start TallyPrime.
Upgrading by download: get the latest version from Tally’s website and run the installer. It includes an option to upgrade the existing version. After installation, you can migrate your existing data to the latest release.
Two cases need a little care. If you use TallyPrime Edit Log alongside TallyPrime, Tally recommends installing Edit Log in a different folder. If you are still on Tally.ERP 9 with an active TSS, you can move to TallyPrime or Edit Log, but install it in a new folder instead of over the old setup.
Who should upgrade first
Not every business will feel all of these changes, so here is where each one lands. Companies that raise e-Invoices and e-Way Bills all day will notice the 30-day session first. It removes a small, repeated annoyance, and the gain is easy to see within a week.
Accountants and CA firms that prepare GSTR-9 for several clients have the most to gain from the export. Every return that no longer needs the HSN summary typed in saves time, and the saving multiplies with the number of clients.
Sellers of tobacco products should upgrade for the Deemed Taxable Amount. If you have been explaining why tax does not match taxable value times the rate, this puts the missing number on the invoice.
Businesses that issue purchase orders regularly will like having them match their invoices. Anyone who prepares TDS or TCS returns should be on the FVU 1.2 release before the next return is generated. UAE companies preparing for e-Invoicing get the exchange tools in this release.
If none of that describes you, 7.2 adds little you will feel on day one. Upgrading at a quiet point in the month is still sensible, since compliance changes in TallyPrime arrive through new releases.
Checks before and after you upgrade
A few habits make the upgrade uneventful.
Before upgrading:
- Back up every company and confirm you can find the backup files.
- Check that your TSS is active.
- If you use TDL add-ons or plug-ins, ask the developer or your Tally partner whether they work on 7.2.
- Avoid upgrading on a filing deadline day.
After upgrading:
- Open a company and check a few vouchers and the reports you rely on.
- Decide whether to turn on the extended e-Invoice and e-Way Bill session, then generate one document to test it.
- Print a purchase order with a template and look at the Auto-save changes to user templates setting.
- If you sell tobacco products, turn on Show Deemed Taxable Amount with F12 and compare a sales voucher against your own working.
- Open the Annual Computation report and try the GSTR-9 export well before the return season.

What is the main difference between 7.1 and 7.2?
Release 7.1 added new areas such as invoice print templates, IMS changes, ICICI payments and Schedule III support. Release 7.2 mostly builds on existing ones: purchase order templates, longer e-Invoice and e-Way Bill sessions, GSTR-9 export, Deemed Taxable Amount and updated TDS and TCS validation.

No. Tally kept the 6-hour validity and added the 30-day option. You can turn the extended session on or off.

No. Release 7.1 and later already calculate GST on the tax-inclusive MRP under the notification. Release 7.2 adds the Deemed Taxable Amount so you can see the value used.
Will TallyPrime file my GSTR-9?
The release notes describe an export for reconciliation and data entry, not filing. You still review the figures and file the return as before.
Do I need Docs by Ira to use 7.2?
No. The Get Started with TallyIra option under F1 only opens the setup page or the help content. Nothing else in the release depends on it.
Does 7.2 apply to TallyPrime Edit Log?
Yes. Tally’s release notes are written for both TallyPrime and TallyPrime Edit Log.
